Here are my thoughts on creativity:
What is Creativity?
Creativity is a form of expression in a formation we can understand with boundless amounts of potential wrapped in a little basket. Or, if you prefer a magnanimous chest the likes of Pandora’s Box. Either works - I like the second. Creativity can be expressed through painting, drawing, photography, short stories, haiku, novels, problem-solving, epics a whole slew of media that could be a form of expression, for that’s what creativity is.
For us to even be able to comprehend the what we must understand the how, because the how is never conventional. We make conventional art for ourselves as a medium, yes, but true creativity is expressed without limit and bound. Some might see one’s work as astonishingly uncreative but for the person who made the work they will always see it with a fond light, flickers of love wrapped in an incomprehensible little basket, because that’s how he wanted to present it. Creativity needs not a tether to matter, in our world. Nor does this untetherable thing sink to an ultimatum amounting to nothing. For the ‘arts’ are not the parameters for which creativity is caged, no, nothing so boring, this thing is a living thing we make alive through ourselves. Things can be done creatively by thinking outside of the box. Outside of what we consider conventional, or traditional for that matter.
Building a skyscraper and naming that building such is a fine example. It took brains, ingenuity, and inspiration that of which was sutured together with calloused hands in order to make such a fine display; a tower that shades hundreds of streets below, hundreds of people. But the idea itself was creative. How it was built was creative. By all means the material they used was creative. In order to make such a gargantuan idea, ground-breaking architecture they must have tested and tested again and again to bring life to something they wished to attempt. Eventually, with new techniques they inspired they were able to create something great and something new.
A math problem may take, on a conventional level, two pages to finally solve, however with a little creative thought the problem can be cut in half with clever machinations and formulas.
Everything, and I repeat, everything is creative. (As long as we’re the ones who causing it). Whether we recognize it on a conscious or subconscious level we’re using thought. And thought is creative.
Our minds are what make us creative, using our ideas gives us a medium of our choosing to express, but our thoughts are what is because we are the ones who identify what is and is not creative.
For if the tip of a cliff crumbles and falls to crash into the waves below, and admittedly… it looks beautiful, we cannot claim that as creative. If a person did not cause that and did not do something to will that to happen in a purposeful manner themselves than creativity was not involved. ONLY OUR OWN WILLS AND OUR IDEAS CAN MAKE US CREATIVE.
